Notification Settings

Curl Budget gives you fine-grained control over notifications. Configure what you're notified about, how notifications are delivered, and when you receive them.

Accessing Settings

Finding Notification Settings

  1. Open Curl Budget
  2. Go to Settings (gear icon)
  3. Tap "Notifications"
  4. Configure each notification type

Notification Types

Transaction Sync Notifications

Get notified when new transactions are imported.

Options:

  • Immediate - Notification sent when transactions sync
  • Daily Digest - One summary per day
  • Disabled - No transaction notifications

Considerations:

  • Immediate can be frequent if you have many transactions
  • Daily Digest provides awareness without interruption
  • Disable if you prefer to check manually

Per-Category Transaction Notifications

Fine-tune which transactions trigger notifications:

  1. Go to Notification Settings
  2. Find "Transaction Categories"
  3. Toggle individual categories on/off

Examples:

  • Enable only for "Large Purchases"
  • Enable for "Travel" while on vacation
  • Disable for frequent categories like "Groceries"

Account Status Notifications

Get notified about connection issues.

Types:

  • Connection Error - Something broke
  • Needs Re-authentication - Login required
  • Disconnected - Connection lost
  • Restored - Fixed successfully

Recommendation: Keep these enabled (Immediate) to catch issues quickly.

Budget Alert Notifications

Get notified about budget progress.

Types:

  • Warning Threshold - Approaching limit
  • Limit Reached - At 100%
  • Over Budget - Exceeded

Configuration:

  • Set warning threshold percentage (default: 80%)
  • Enable/disable each alert type
  • Per-budget settings available

Duplicate Detection Notifications

Get notified when potential duplicates are found.

Options:

  • Immediate, Digest, or Disabled
  • Usually low volume, consider enabling

Double Charge Detection Notifications

Get notified about potential fraud or merchant errors.

Options:

  • Immediate (recommended for fraud awareness)
  • Digest
  • Disabled

Recommendation: Keep enabled for security awareness.

Balance Alert Notifications

Get notified when account balances cross thresholds.

Configuration:

  • Set thresholds per account
  • Choose threshold type (amount or percentage)

System Notifications

Updates from Curl Budget.

Types:

  • New features and updates
  • Maintenance notifications
  • Important announcements

Options:

  • Enable or Disable
  • Usually low volume

Delivery Modes

Immediate

Notifications sent as events occur:

Pros:

  • Timely awareness
  • Quick response to issues
  • Real-time tracking

Cons:

  • Can be interruptive
  • May be frequent for high-volume types
  • Multiple notifications possible

Best for:

  • Account issues
  • Budget alerts
  • Fraud detection
  • Time-sensitive information

Daily Digest

One consolidated notification per day:

Pros:

  • Less intrusive
  • Organized summary
  • Predictable timing

Cons:

  • Delayed awareness
  • Less immediate action
  • May miss time-sensitive issues

Best for:

  • Transaction summaries
  • Low-priority updates
  • High-volume notification types

Digest timing:

  • Usually delivered in the morning
  • Contains previous 24 hours of events
  • Single notification for all included events

Disabled

No notifications for that type:

When to use:

  • You check the app regularly
  • The notification type isn't useful to you
  • You're overwhelmed by notifications

Note: Disabling notifications doesn't disable the underlying featureβ€”just the alerts.

Global Settings

Quiet Hours

Set times when notifications are suppressed:

  1. Go to Notification Settings
  2. Find "Quiet Hours"
  3. Set start and end times
  4. Enable/disable

During quiet hours:

  • Notifications are held
  • Delivered after quiet hours end
  • Or delivered next morning

Mute All

Temporarily disable all notifications:

  1. Toggle "Mute All Notifications"
  2. Set duration if desired
  3. All notifications suppressed until unmuted

Use for:

  • Vacations
  • Important meetings
  • Focus time

Per-Account Settings

Transaction Notification Accounts

Choose which accounts trigger transaction notifications:

  1. Go to Notification Settings
  2. Find "Accounts"
  3. Toggle individual accounts

Use case:

  • Enable for main spending accounts
  • Disable for infrequently used accounts
  • Disable for accounts you check manually

Balance Alert Accounts

Configure balance alerts per account:

  1. Find the account in settings
  2. Set balance threshold
  3. Enable alert

Configure notification sounds:

Troubleshooting Settings

Settings Not Saving

If changes don't stick:

  1. Ensure you have internet connection
  2. Try closing and reopening settings
  3. Force close and reopen the app
  4. Check for app updates

Notifications Despite "Disabled"

If you still receive disabled notifications:

  1. Verify the specific type is disabled
  2. Check device-level settings
  3. Clear app cache
  4. Reinstall if persistent

Not Receiving Expected Notifications

If enabled notifications aren't arriving:

  1. Check both app and device settings
  2. Verify you're not in Quiet Hours
  3. Check that Mute All isn't enabled
