Family Sharing
Family Sharing
If you use Apple Family Sharing, eligible family members can share your Curl Budget subscription. One subscription can serve your entire family, with each person having their own account and data.
How Family Sharing Works
Apple Family Sharing Basics
Apple Family Sharing allows:
- Up to 6 family members
- Shared purchases and subscriptions
- Individual Apple IDs and accounts
- Family organizer manages the group
Curl Budget and Family Sharing
When you subscribe to Curl Budget:
- Your subscription can be shared with family members
- Each family member has their own Curl Budget account
- Data is separate between family members
- One subscription payment covers everyone
Setting Up Family Sharing
If You're Already Using Family Sharing
If your family already has Apple Family Sharing set up:
- The family member with the subscription shares it automatically
- Other family members download Curl Budget
- Create their own Curl Budget account
- The shared subscription provides access
Setting Up New Family Sharing
If you need to set up Family Sharing:
- Go to device Settings β Your Name β Family Sharing
- Set up Family Sharing
- Invite family members
- Configure subscription sharing
For detailed Apple Family Sharing setup, see Apple's support documentation.
Who Can Share
The Purchaser (Family Organizer or Member Who Subscribed)
The person who subscribed:
- Pays for the subscription
- Shares it with family
- Has full individual access to their own Curl Budget
Family Members
Other family members:
- Get access without paying separately
- Have their own Curl Budget accounts
- Their data is completely separate
- Full feature access
Individual Accounts
Separate Data
Each family member has:
- Their own Curl Budget account
- Their own connected bank accounts
- Their own transactions and history
- Their own categories, budgets, and settings
Family Sharing doesn't mean sharing financial dataβjust sharing the subscription cost.
Privacy
Family members cannot:
- See each other's transactions
- Access each other's accounts
- View each other's budgets or reports
Unless they explicitly share via workspaces.
Optional Sharing
If family members want to share data:
- Create a shared workspace
- Invite family members
- Share as much or as little as desired
This is separate from subscription sharing.

Roles and Access
Family Organizer
The person who set up Family Sharing:
- Manages family membership
- May or may not be the subscriber
- Controls Family Sharing settings
Subscriber
The family member who subscribed to Curl Budget:
- Pays for the subscription
- Subscription is shared with family
- Can be the organizer or any family member
Other Family Members
Everyone else in the family:
- Gets access through the subscription
- Has individual Curl Budget accounts
- Full feature access
Children and Family Sharing
Child Accounts
If you have child accounts in your family:
- Children can use Curl Budget
- They have their own accounts
- Parents can help manage if needed
Parental Considerations
Consider whether children should:
- Have full access to a finance app
- Track their own spending
- Learn financial management
Family Sharing allows it; whether it's appropriate is a family decision.
Troubleshooting
Family Member Can't Access
If a family member doesn't have access:
-
Verify Family Sharing is active
- Check Settings β Your Name β Family Sharing
- Confirm they're in the family
-
Verify subscription sharing
- Check that subscription sharing is enabled
- Some families have sharing turned off
-
Have them restore purchases
- In Curl Budget: Settings β Subscription β Restore Purchases
-
Check their Apple ID
- Must be signed in with the Apple ID in the family group
Subscription Not Recognized
If Curl Budget doesn't see the shared subscription:
- Restore purchases in the app
- Verify the subscriber's subscription is active
- Check Family Sharing settings
- Try signing out and back in
Left Family But Still Need Access
If you left a family and need Curl Budget:
- Subscribe with your own Apple ID
- Your data is preserved
- New subscription activates your access
Alternatives to Family Sharing
Separate Subscriptions
Each family member can subscribe individually:
- Separate billing
- No Family Sharing dependency
- Each controls their own subscription
Workspace Sharing
If you want to share data (not just subscription):
- One person subscribes
- Creates a shared workspace
- Invites family members
- All share the financial data
This is for collaborating on finances, not just sharing subscription cost.
